Make Room, St. Pat!
There just happens to be another Patrick to celebrate on March 17.
The cartoonist and children's author Patrick McDonnell was born on this day in 1956. He is the creator of the long-running comic strip, Mutts, about the adventures of Earl, a dog, and Mooch, a cat, who are best friends. Mutts Go Green, The Mutts Winter Diaries, and other collections of his comic strips are available at the Chicago Public Library.
McDonnell is also the author of the Caldecott Honor-winning book Me . . . Jane, which is available in the Early Childhood section of the Edgewater Branch library. The book is about a young Jane Goodall, who, inspired by her stuffed toy chimpanzee, dreams of going to Africa to help animals.
Also available at the Edgewater Branch is The Little Red Cat Who Ran Away and Learned his ABC's (the Hard Way). It's a delightful alphabet book about the adventures of, yes, a little red cat.
