The Fight, Might and Right to Vote: Then and Now

If you didn’t get a chance to attend this virtual event. Here’s your chance to see it or see it again.

This three-part evening begins with a historical portrayal by Her Story Theater of Illinois suffragettes, Grace Wilbur Trout, Ida B. Wells, and Catherine McCullough, who fought for the vote and ratification of the 19th Amendment in Illinois.

This brief play, "Radical Ideas! Women and the Vote!" written by Her Story Theater's Artistic Director, Mary Bonnett, highlights these three distinct personalities with very different approaches who banded together to form a powerful, united front to fight for equality in a day when little was offered for women. Performed by Connie Foster, Brigid Duffy, Alma Washington, and Gary Houston.

Then Anne Jamieson, president of the League of Women Voters of Chicago, reminds us that the fight for the right to vote continues today in many forms and suggests how individuals' might is still necessary to overcome voting disparities. She is joined in the discussion by Her Story Theater's Mary Bonnett. This is followed by a Q&A. We hope you enjoy the program.
